Lasco.A affecting Symbian based devices

Mobile devices running Symbian Operating System are a hot property in the virus market as new worms continues to appear which affect the much in news mobile platform. The latest news in is that a new strain of malware has been spotted which is technically advanced when compared to earlier worms. The virus termed as Lasco.A uses a combination of tactics to affect vulnerable systems.

This news comes within a month of the first major outbreak in the form of Skulls Trojan. Other popular malware have been various variants of the worm Cabir. As with most of the earlier notifications, F-Secure have been one of the first spotters of this malware in the wild. The company reported: “[The malware] combines two spreading tactics, which is common in PC malware but previously unheard of in mobile systems”.

It spread by searching for all the SIS files on the infected system and embeds itself into them. Like with other worms, it spread to other devices through Bluetooth connectivity. The security firms have reported that the coding of this new malware resembles one of the variants of the Cabir worm and can be originating from the same source.
