BT to enable their customers to become part of a big Wi-Fi network
BT Group has announced that they would soon provide their customers with a software technology that would enable them to share part of their bandwidth to other people through Wi-Fi.
They would be providing technology from Fon Technology and this spare bandwidth would be made available to other Fon service members.
This would allow their subscribers to become part of a huge network enabling wide spread Wi-Fi availability.
Fon’s technology enables the user to create two separate networks. One of it is secure and is used for personal connectivity. The other network provides spare bandwidth to people in nearby areas.
Any member joining the program would be able to access this network which would be powered by other member’s routers.
BT said that only a part of the overall bandwidth would be made available for public use.
