European Commission now wants cheaper SMS, data services
European Commission has said that they now want the mobile networks to remove obscene charges for sending text messages and other data services.
They have already helped the customers a lot by setting a limit on roaming charges applied when the user is traveling within the EU countries.
EU Telecommunications Commissioner Viviane Reding said in a statement: “I call on operators to deal with the problem of high prices for text messages and data.”
This means that if the operators do not take an initiative on their own, the commission could considering placing a cap on these charges as well!
The commission further said that the cap on roaming charges has led to a decrease in mobile bills by as much as 60%.
Mobile operators are however not going to be happy about this latest challenge being put forward by the EU.
