Garmin could make an entry into mobile phone business
Market analysts have said that navigation device company Garmin could enter the mobile phone segment as early next year.
The company is increasingly facing competition from mobile companies which are now integrating GPS navigation systems on mobile devices.
Nokia is one such company which could hurt Garmin in the longer run with their higher end phones now featuring capabilities matching Garmin devices.
However it is unlikely that they would want to become a major player in the mobile phone segment.
Instead, they are likely to release mobile phones focused on their core business of providing good navigation features.
The company is however not new to mobile phones… They had launched NavTalk in 1999 which at that time was the first GPS-equipped cell phone.
