Google Mini for Small Enterprise Solutions

Apple is not the only company, which is going basic. Now Google has got a stripped down version named on a similar concept as Google Mini. It costs only around USD 5000 and provides similar functionalities like Google search appliance. Google is aiming for smaller sized organizations with this product, which has got limited capabilities of searching up to 50,000 documents.

The original product is pretty unaffordable for these small sized organizations at a price of USD 30,000. The logic behind this service is that people prefer to use search options instead of navigating through a site’s structure or sitemaps whether on Internet or a corporate intranet. This makes companies to look for intranet based search engine requirements and Google with their expertise provide excellent options.

Google said in a press release that their Google Mini appliance is aimed at making information accessible. It supports both intranet and Internet based sources of data and supports around 220 file formats. It can handle webpages up to 2.5megs size and other file formats up to 30megs size.

The company claims that the devices have the capacity to crawl over a fresh network at speeds of around 25000 documents per day. The mini version would be sold only through online channels unlike the bigger brother, which is available on General Services Administration schedule. It would also include a software update, which imposes role-based access to content through X509 digital certificates.
