Apple responds to Greenpeace on iPhone related allegations

Greenpeace claimed in a report that Apple iPhone contained hazardous material in its parts.

Apple has now responded to these claims. The iPhone maker said in a release that the mobile device meets the restrictions placed on hazardous substances.

A company spokesperson was quoted as saying: “Like all Apple products worldwide, iPhone complies with RoHS, the world’s toughest restrictions on toxic substances in electronics. As we have said, Apple will voluntarily eliminate the use of PVC and BFRs by the end of 2008.”

Greenpeace had claimed that the iPhone device contained chemicals including phthalates which are banned in several nations worldwide.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs had already stated in an open letter to the public that he wants Apple to become a green company. He promised that the company would completely eliminate the use of PVC and BFRs in its products by the end of 2008.
