Universal Total Music could take on Apple iTunes
Universal Music Group is the world’s largest music company and they are now working on plans to launch a digital media store as they aim to take on Apple iTunes.
Market sources say that they are currently in talks with rival music companies to collaborate on this service which is expected to be called Total Music.
Reports further claim that the service could be offered for free initially with some digital media players.
Apple iTunes is the market leader in this segment of the market and music companies are not generally happy with the deals they get from Apple for selling their media on this store.
The general idea is that the media store would collaborate with hardware companies to include a fee in the price of the devices which would subsidize the cost of subscription on this store.

About

Yes, since their customers have already clearly chosen to purchase music instead of renting it, now they are trying to trick people into renting music? And given that these new ‘prepaid rent’ devices both have to cost more AND self-destruct [or the customer has to pay more down the road], they expect people who are already NOT paying for music to pay extra for these wacky new devices?
