Asustek Computer launches Eee PC low cost laptop
Taiwan computer maker Asustek Computer has announced the launch of their own low cost notebook machine named Eee PC.
They plan to target this machine at children, elderly people and low-income users in the developing world.
Asustek chief executive officer Johnny Shih spoke about the Eee PC: “The ‘Eee PC’ is our answer to where the next one billion users of personal computers are going to come from. We want to enable more users around the world — housewives, the elderly and children — to have access.”
A company representative added: “Basically, we do not define the model as a low-priced computer. Rather, it is armed with innovative cutting-edge technology. Hopefully it would become the second computer of a number of PC users.”
It would be available with Linux and Windows OS options. They are aiming to sell around 300,000 units in the three months to December.
