Intel Diamondville mobile chip announced
Intel has now announced their latest mobile microprocessor. This new processor has been codenamed Diamondville and it is being developed for the ultra-low cost laptop PCs.
They aim to launch this processor in the market by April next year.
Intel seems to be designing this processor with products like the XO laptop in mind. Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of the mobile platforms group at Intel spoke about Diamondville: “There was no way for us to take the Core architecture and try to stretch it down to the low cost PC, and for that reason we designed a new architecture from scratch.”
Intel claims that this new processor will be extremely low voltage. And the products for which it is designed for are likely to be priced in the range between US$199 and $250.
Via is one company which develops microprocessor solutions for this range of personal computing products.
Incidentally, Asustek has just announced their Eee PC which is also a low cost mobile computer aimed at kids and older people.
