Linux Patches released for Major Distributions
In a rather different note, Linux Distro makers have released a couple of patches to combat similar problems, which usually affect the windows Operating System. Red Hat, Novell, MandrakeSoft have all clubbed together to release these updates.
Red Hat has released the maximum number of three patches for their Linux based offerings. Next comes MandrakeSoft with two patches for their Mandrake Linux. Novell with their SuSE Linux has just one update. All these are supposed to fix the security related glitches discovered in the recent weeks.
These bugs were reported by the security firm Secunia and make a machine susceptible to denial-of-service attacks and buffer overflow attacks. In addition, hackers can use graphics and Adobe Acrobat documents to take over a user’s machine.
Recent days have seen attacks on Linux based machines, which just might be the beginning of next generation of security glitches, which would be discovered in the rapidly growing Linux users market. Microsoft also issued some important security updates last week to fix certain critical flaws in their flagship operating systems.
Seems like a great beginning to the New Year.
