MediaTek and IBM to work on wireless chipsets
US based tech giant IBM has announced that they are now going to work with Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek.
The two companies would together work on developing wireless chipsets. These would be usable in devices like DVD players, HD-TVs, hand-held devices or other gadgets.
They would be basing these new chips on the IBM Labs’ mmWave radio technology.
IBM has worked on this new technology since the last couple of years and they showcased a tech preview of its use last year.
This technology would take on the other emerging player in this segment WiMax which is backed by some of the largest tech companies in the world including Intel.
