RIM BlackBerry comes to China
Research In Motion has confirmed that they have now started shipping their BlackBerry smartphones to China.
They are going to start selling the devices in this market sometime later this year. They are going to launch the BlackBerry in China in collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent.
The first device to be sold in this market would be their 8700 model.
Market analyst Peter Misek spoke about Blackberry in Asian markets: “China and India are emerging mobile phone behemoths that could contribute millions of subscribers to RIM over the next several years.”
RIM had first announced their plans to enter the Chinese market in May 2006.
Jim Balsillie, RIM’s co-chief executive spoke on their plans: “We look forward to building on the early interest and momentum we are experiencing in China with both multinational and domestic corporations.”
