USD 100 OLPC laptop now costs USD 200!
The One Laptop per Child Foundation is now offering their much talked about laptop in quantities of 10,000 for $200 apiece on its Web site.
Interestingly, this laptop was initially expected to be priced USD 100 but the development costs has now doubled the price.
They still hope to achieve the original price tag as orders start coming in and it becomes cheaper to make the device in larger quantities.
They are now scheduled to begin production in China next month.
Uruguay, Peru and Mongolia are three nations who have already placed orders for these machines for distribution amongst children to help in their education.
However, the current number of orders are still fraction of what they had originally expected.
