MySpace working with Google on OpenSocial
MySpace is the web’s most popular social networking service. They are already working with the search engine giant Google for searching and advertising services on MySpace.com.
The two companies have now said that they are expanding their collaboration and would work together on developing applications which can be used anywhere on the web.
Google said that they have been talking with MySpace about their project which has now been named OpenSocial for more than a year now.
The search engine company further said that another popular social networking service Bebo.com would also be hosting widgets supplied from its platform.
Market analysts believe that with the entry of MySpace.com Google’s OpenSocial system is now likely to lure a lot of third party developers.
Their main challenger is Facebook which opened up its platform to developers some months ago. Since then, they have seen formidable growth in their usage.
Looks like it’s now Google and MySpace vs. Microsoft and Facebook. Microsoft recently acquired a minority stake in Facebook.
