Toshiba HD-A35 HD DVD Player on sale now
Japanese consumer electronics maker Toshiba has already started selling their third generation of HD DVD players.
The latest player from the company is the Toshiba HD-A35. It is being offered at a retail price tag of USD 499.
Market sources say that this latest player is a much refined product compared to the previous generation products from the company.
It comes loaded with HDMI and component outputs along with a digital audio output in addition to composite video. It also has support for two-channel and 5.1-channel analog outputs.
The company claims that the player can support up to 7.1-channels of discrete multichannel sound.

It’s not 1080p.
HD-DVD movies are in 1080p. Why would I buy a player that doesn’t play in 1080p???
Because I wanna buy DVDs for $30.00?
Buying this would be moronic!
Thanks, but No thanks!

So finally HD-DVD tries to catch up to Blu-Ray with all of the features such as 1080p/24fps video and the latest audio codecs.
Notice that the price is $500 which is at the same price or in some cases (Samsung’s BD-P1400) more expensive than Blu-Ray.
Yet since this player is released with two lesser models, HD-DVD followers are spinning the story stating that the prices (of the cheaper HD models) are much more affordable than Blu-Ray.
Blu-Ray player prices continue to fall, yet HD releases a third generation player at top price? It seems like they walk into every room backwards.

Samsung’s BD-P1400 is no comparison to HD-A35.
Only one Blue-ray player Pioneer BDP-95FD ($1000) is at the same level as HD-A35, be able to output bittream of Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD MA for lossless audio. The rest of the Blu-ray are OK in video only.
I have both PS3 (60 gig) and HD-A35. Video and audio from PS3’s Blu-ray are so far behind HD-A35.
