23andMe offering DNA saliva test for $999 per person

23andMe is a new service which has just been launched and they are now providing DNA saliva test for $999 per person.

The company is funded by several parties one of which is the search engine giant Google. Other investors are Genentech Inc and New Enterprise Associates.

It has been founded by Linda Avey along with Anne Wojcicki. Anne Wojcicki is the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin.

The service would allow web users to get their DNA tested to know more about their genes, inherited traits, family trees.

Avey said in a statement at the launch: “The mission of 23andMe is to take the genetic revolution to a new level by offering a secure, Web-based service where individuals can explore, share and better understand their own genetic information.”
