Texas Instruments to power cheap Nokia Mobiles

One of the largest cell phone manufacturers in the world Nokia would soon start taking technology from Texas Instruments for their upcoming cheap mobile phones. The new chipset would be incorporating most of the mobile electronics components necessary for a mobile phone on a single panel, which would end up making the productions costs low.

Texas Instruments in a press release said that their technology would help Nokia make cheaper and affordable phones, which would let them target emerging mobile markets like India and China. The competition in these areas is quite complicated and with margins going lower, it became important for Nokia to look for cheaper technology.

The latest chips from Texas Instruments would bundle together components for functionalities like memory storage, logic, power management and various radio/network processes. TI has been working on this concept since 2002 and displayed test models last month.

Nokia’s vice president of entry business line of phones Juha Pinomaa had this to say about the latest development: “By incorporating TI’s technology into a single chip, Nokia mobile phones will provide the ideal mix of cool features and cost-effectiveness, making them more attractive to the mass market place”.
