One Laptop Per Child facing Patent Lawsuit
One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Association has been sued by a company based in Massachusetts which is claiming that their Laptop is infringing on their patented technology.
Lagos Analysis Corp. is claiming that they own a patent for a four shift-key keyboard in Nigeria where the laptop is being provided to school children.
The company claims that the OLPC developers reverse-engineered the company’s patented keyboard. They are now asking for “substantial” damages.
They are also seeking a permanent injunction to prevent OLPC from manufacturing and selling its XO laptop.
OLPC had this to say in response to this lawsuit: “OLPC has the utmost respect for the rights of intellectual property owners. To OLPC’s knowledge, all of the intellectual property used in the XO Laptop is either owned by OLPC or properly licensed. Until we have a copy of the claim and have had time to review it, we will not be commenting further on the matter.”
