Symantec realizes the potential and launches e-mail security appliance

Computer Security is a big business today. New viruses and worms are discovered on a daily basis. And the only way to prevent is to get an antivirus and an anti-spyware application. In addition, now you need a firewall and applications to keep your identity anonymous on the Internet. This has led to a boom in the revenues of the security firms, which produces software and hardware to tackles these virtual nuisances.

Symantec is one such firm who recognizes the market demand as their latest product is not just a software release but a completely new series of email security appliances targeted at companies from the 100-person level to large enterprises. The product range comprises of two types of offerings. While the 8100 series is focused on controlling SPAM… the 8200 series is equipped with broad defense mechanism with email firewall, anti-spam, anti-virus, content filtering, and message integrity capability.

These appliances follow a successful launch of firewall appliance line from the same company. Symantec is already involved in the offering of similar products albeit under different brand names with collaboration with other component makers like IronPort Systems. Symantec said that they decided to offer products under their own brand name considering the reputation the company had and the desire to have a product covering all the aspects of their target market.

A Symantec representative had this to say about these latest products from the maker of Norton Anti-Virus: “Some customers view Symantec as strategic security, and want a solution entirely delivered by Symantec. We think we are looking at different customers than IronPort, and the products won’t aim for same target buyer. We saw an opportunity to hit the mid-market and are looking at slightly different types of threat.”

Care to elaborate? or are you just mindlessly venting about something you have no domain knowledge about?
