Google reveals potential Wikipedia challenger Knol
Google has revealed in a blog post that they are working on a new Internet encyclopedia project codenamed Knol.
The company said that this project would include content submitted by experts in their fields.
This could possibly become a challenger to the non-profit Wikipedia project which is hugely popular amongst the web users.
Google stated that for the time being, submissions are by invitation only as they are fine-tuning the system.
The blog post added:
“There are millions of people who possess useful knowledge that they would love to share, and there are billions of people who can benefit from it. We believe that many do not share that knowledge today simply because it is not easy enough to do that.”
Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales had this to say on this new Google Project: “Google does a lot of cool stuff, but a lot of that cool stuff doesn’t work out so great.”
