FastMac announces Blu-Ray drive for Apple Mac
FastMac has launched their new 4x dual layer Blu-Ray Disc drive for Mac Pro and Power Mac G5 systems.
It would sell for $579.95.
Blu-Ray format is the next generation storage format developed by Sony. The most popular version of the drive is being shipped with Sony Playstation 3 gaming console.
It is competing against HD DVD format developed by Toshiba.
The company said that a dual-layer disc can store up to 50GB of content.
FastMac further said that the drive is compatible with third-party software including Roxio Toast 8 Titanium and Adobe Premiere CS3. It currently only supports burning data as the Mac OS X is currently unable to run Blu-Ray media.
The drive is also compatible with standard DVD and CD media.
