Willcom and KDDI win licenses to provide WiMAX in Japan
Willcom Inc and a group led by mobile service provider KDDI has now won licenses to provide high-speed internet through WiMAX in Japan.
These two companies won in a bidding war that also involved mobile carriers NTT DoCoMo Inc and Softbank Corp.
Wimax is an advanced version of Wi-Fi which covers a broader area to provide high speed internet access wirelessly.
KDDI would work with companies including Intel and Kyocera to provide these solutions in their home market.
The company said that it would be tough for them to make this service profitable looking at the initial costs of developing the infrastructure.
