Wikia would be open to public January 7
Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has revealed that they would make available Wikia to public next month.
He said in a statement that Wikia Search project has now assembled the basic technologies for a search engine.
The engine would now use feedback from the technology enthusiasts to improve the quality of the search to make it more relevant.
Wikia project has been developed to provide a more open platform for a search engine project to challenge the dominating players in the market.
Wales say that existing search engines like Google and Yahoo do not give out more information on how sites are ranked in the result pages.
They have already started inviting private beta testers to start the process.
