Apple signs up a deal with 20th Century Fox studio?

Market sources state that the iPod maker Apple has now signed up a deal with News Corp’s 20th Century Fox studio.

This deal is said to be in connection to the rumored video-on-demand service which would allow users to rent the latest Fox DVD releases by downloading a copy through Apple iTunes store.

Apple currently only releases the latest movies from Walt Disney but these are sold and are not for rent.

Paramount, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Lionsgate are also offering some of their older movies on sale on Apple iTunes.

Market sources added that this deal could be announced at the upcoming Macworld show on January 14. This could possibly redefine the movie rental services online considering the popularity of Apple iTunes.

Jonathan Weitz, a principal with IBB Consulting spoke about this deal: “Fox and potentially other studios are coming around to the idea that there is nobody out there to challenge iTunes. This deal is a sign that media mobility is coming to the mainstream.”
