Apple’s Mac Mini and iPod Shuffle are in India

Apple has finally launched their latest new offering Mac Mini and iPod Shuffle in India. And as expected the prices are on the higher side compared to what Apple is charging for them in the States. The cheapest Macintosh ever from Apple Inc Mac Mini is available in India starting from the prices of INR 32,200. This could potentially give a chance for many Apple fans in India (including myself) to possible fulfill the dream of owning a Mac!

The prices however look on the higher side when compared to USD 499 base price in America. Mac Mini is a minimalist offering from Apple which comes in a tiny package of 2”x6”x6” cabinet without any monitor, keyboard or mouse. The point is to get existing PC Customers lured into buying the Mini to replace their older CPU. Hence, anyone with an existing computer can potentially become a Mac owner for just around 35000 bucks!

Apple Mac Mini comes preloaded with Mac OS X and their new software release iLife 05 and other packages. This software package is also available as a separate purchase at a price of Rs 4,710. Apple’s office suite iWork is also available now at the same price. In addition, Apple has also released information that latest version of the video-editing application Final Cut Express HD is also available for sale in India.

An Apple representative told the media during the launch: “With an attractive price point we want to attract more PC users to Mac Mini”. In addition to Mac Mini, Apple also launched their micro sized digital music player iPod Shuffle. The chewing gum pack sized player is available in two capacities of 512 Megs and 1 GB and is available in India at prices of Rs 8,500 and Rs 12,400 respectively.

Don’t forget that in the US prices don’t include sales tax, which is different for every state and added at time of purchase.

21000 INR is right. But the Indian Apple store says the warranty is only for America if puchased there! No global warranty, in this age of globalisation.
