Yahoo closing down music subscription service
Internet media giant Yahoo has announced their decision to close down their online music subscription service.
They are now helping their members to move to RealNetworks Inc.’s Rhapsody music service.
This decision is part of their collaboration with Real to promote their Rhapsody service through their website.
Scott Moore, Yahoo’s head of media spoke about this new development: “People want to have music and consume it in lots of different forms and across different devices and platforms and we want to have a play in as many of those as we can.”
the company added that this decision would help them concentrate on other ventures including providing free, ad-supported music and other media offerings.
This is somewhat of a bad news for the members of the Yahoo service considering Rhapsody memberships prices are quite expensive compared to what Yahoo charged them.
