Google says a Microsoft-Yahoo deal would be bad for the Internet

Search engine giant Google has now revealed their opinion on the Microsoft bid to acquire the Internet media giant Yahoo.

Google posted its opinion on their official blog and said that they believe that a possible deal between Microsoft and Yahoo would be bad for the Internet.

David Drummond, Google’s chief legal officer said in the post: “Microsoft’s hostile bid for Yahoo raises troubling questions. This is about more than simply a financial transaction, one company taking over another. It’s about preserving the underlying principles of the Internet: openness and innovation.”

It is pretty clear that Microsoft is interested in Yahoo to challenge Google in the search engine and Internet advertising market. Google is their biggest rival in these segments. Yahoo on its own has failed to put a dent in Google’s market share in these fields.

Market sources also claims that Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt called Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang and offered their help in thwarting this Microsoft bid through a possible collaboration.

If Google and Yahoo join hands, Microsoft would be in much bigger trouble when it comes to Internet and online services.
