International Federation of Phonographic Industries sue Baidu, Sohu for piracy

International Federation of Phonographic Industries has now filed a fresh lawsuit against Chinese Internet companies Baidu and Sohu.

They are claiming in this lawsuit that the two Internet companies help web users find and download pirated digital media.

They are asking the courts to direct these companies to links to sites carrying pirated media from their search engines.

IFPI said in a statement: “We sent notices to Baidu to get them to take down the links and they failed to comply, so we had to sue them.”

It added: “All of the Chinese companies involved operate similar services based on delivering music to their users via `deep links’ to hundreds of thousands of infringing tracks on third-party sites, with the aim of driving their own advertising revenue.”
