Microsoft launches MSN Search in India

Search Engine market is huge. Statistics show that it generates around USD 7 billions worth of business every year. And currently it is Google, which takes the major portion of the pie from this market. Except for Yahoo! there has rarely been any competitor that threatened Google until Bill Gates sat and noticed what he (again) missed on. Search Engines. They decided to work on their own technology for search engine and we now have the final version of their development work.

Microsoft launched their new service in India today after the global launch yesterday. The aim is to help users find what they searched for using advance algorithms and technology. The software giant took around 2 years to come up with this update search engine now running on MSN India website. Microsoft’s Indian representative Mr. Krishna Prasad told the media: “Worldwide, there are around 28 million Internet users, which are likely to reach 100 million by 2010. Of these, 70 to 80 per cent use search engines. In terms of volumes, India is a very exciting market.”

With this update, Microsoft no longer uses technology provided by Yahoo!, which makes it three major search engines being used around the world. Yahoo! until sometime back was dependent on Google’s engine and now all these three giants Microsoft, Yahoo!, and Google are using their own technologies. Rumors are also in which claims that Microsoft has now started to work on fields where Google already have working models ready… Video Searching and Books are said to be next target for MSN Search.

The strength of MSN Search engine lies in the integrated Microsoft services like Encarta and MSN Music. It gives straight answers to queries thrown at it in simple language. Also integrated are image and news searching. User can also directly go into MSN Desktop Search module if the software is installed on the machine. Microsoft claims that MSN attracts more than 360 million users worldwide per month, which can lead to great number of searches on this Google competitor.
