Bluetooth could soon use Wi-Fi for faster data transfer

Bluetooth technology is very popular with mobile devices nowadays but the data transfer speeds are disappointing when compared to other wireless technologies.

Michael Foley, director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group has now said that they are working on a solution which would link Bluetooth with Wi-Fi to provide faster access speeds.

He added that the first generation of devices to support this would start appearing in the market by next year.

Incidentally, several companies are already working on a faster version of Bluetooth using ultra-wideband but that has been delayed massively.

Foley added: “It does appear that the first products … are going to be Bluetooth-Wi-Fi, and our members want to take advantage of that. This in no way … changes our vision of using ultra-wideband technology for high speed when that technology is ready.”
