Cingular Wireless to offer palmOne Treo 650
American telecom giant Cingular Wireless announced that they would soon start selling a new device from the palmOne mobile company named Treo 650. It is an EDGE-enabled device, which comes fully loaded with goodies like a digital camera, PDA functionality and a mobile phone. It is also quad-band and the network claims it is a unique device, which would operate on their EDGE network. This next generation network lets mobile devices to access data at speeds close to 135 kbps.
Cingular Wireless would be offering services, which would let palmOne users make and receive voice calls in 170 countries. It would also let users check their emails; manage contacts and schedules through Palm OS organizer and more. It supports messaging and comes loaded with a QWERTY keypad and a high-resolution screen. The device is of course web enabled and also features an MP3 player and supports Bluetooth connectivity. Users can also use the device to capture videos and playback them.
Cingular Wireless provides the EDGE network connectivity in around 8,500 cities and towns across the United States. They would be offering this hi-tech device in the states for around USD 449.99 if the customer signs for a 2 year service deal. The price goes up to USD 549.99 in case the customer plans to buy it in retail.
This is definitely one expensive toy to own! Even the new Mac Mini is cheaper at around USD 499 (without taxes)…
