BT, Virgin Media and Carphone Warehouse to offer advertising platform
Three of the dominating ISPs in the UK market are collaborating to use a new advertising platform to generate revenues.
BT, Virgin Media and TalkTalk are going to collaborate and use a system designed by Phorm to offer this service.
They are creating a new online exchange named Open Internet Exchange (OIX) marketplace. Advertisers would be able to use this platform to showcase their products.
Phorm said in a statement on this new development: “This benefits advertisers, publishers and consumers alike and introduces a completely new level of effectiveness in online advertising.”

No! If Virgin Media are going to pass on “certain keywords and URLs” on sites we visit then, at the very least, where the hell is OUR SHARE of the revenue?! I’ve blocked cookies from webwise.com in Opera, and I suggest other people do the same (or consider downloading the Firefox extension from dephormation.co.uk).
I don’t like sounding a bit like a tinfoil hat wearer, but this is ridiculous. I mean. who the hell actually clicks on anything they see in an online advert, assuming they’re not blocking them in the first place? As for the “Hotels in Paris” example… What about independent review sites, and search engines? If I’m on a weather site to find out when the best time to arrive is, why should the ads be “relevant” at all?
Oh, and I know about Google. At least we can have some sort of say in the development of Phorm and “Webwise” though, as the share price watchers will know…
