International Olympic Committee allows blogging at Beijing Olympics
International Olympic Committee has finally given its permission to allow athletes competing in the Olympics to blog.
The IOC has now released the guidelines for the upcoming Beijing Games.
They had been rejecting the idea as they were afraid that the blog posts might end up infringing copyrights and leakage of private information.
IOC now said in its statement: “The IOC considers blogging… as a legitimate form of personal expression and not a form of journalism. It is required that, when accredited persons at the Games post any Olympic content, it be confined solely to their own personal Olympic-related experience.”
Bloggers would not be allowed to post any visual or audio material during the games. They are also prohibited from posting any confidential information on third parties.

Blog–with a gag! How dare the International Olympic Committee join with the butchers of Beijing to censor athletes in any way! Do athletes somehow become slaves of the Chinese dictatorship just because they are part of the Propaganda Olympics?
No! If you are an athlete, start your own unofficial blog and load it up with videos, photos, interviews with Chinese human rights victims. Take your video camera, digital camera, and a laptop to upload and blog. Show a finger to the censors! China and the IOC won’t dare send you home because they’ll fear the reactions if they try. Google for ways to get around the “Great firewall” in China so you can update it from your hotel or other location.
