Mobile TV services very popular in Japan
The Telecommunications Carriers Association has stated in a report that the shipments of the mobile devices capable of television reception increased to more than 20 million units since its launch.
This mark was touched in December. This month itself saw sales of more than 1 million handsets.
The Mobile TV service OneSeg is capable of broadcasting QVGA (320 pixels-by-240 pixels) resolution.
It provides the service for free and is broadcasted without any digital rights management technology making it easier for mobile makers to develop new models.
The service is also accessible through notebooks and car navigation devices with OneSeg tuners.
