Microsoft to make ‘interoperable’ software

In a new indication coming from the chairman of the largest software maker in the world, Microsoft will soon be working towards making their software work better with other software systems and hardware. Bill Gates addressed the customers in an email, which said: “Over the years, our industry has tried many approaches to come to grips with the heterogeneity of software. But the solution that has proven consistently effective – and the one that yields the greatest success for developers today – is a strong commitment to interoperability. ”

In the past, similar mails to customers from Bill Gates have led to major company policy changes. Sometime back Bill Gates emphasized on the importance of developing secure softwares and since then a lot has been done by the company to make their products secure. Service Pack 2 of their main Operating System for the masses Windows XP was primarily targeted towards making it secure. Microsoft also went ahead and acquired a software company GIANT Company Software that specialized in making Anti-Spyware applications. Now we have Microsoft’s own Anti-Spyware application freely available for download.

The latest mail, which was sent to major corporate customers and made public by Microsoft, Gates promised that Microsoft would now make special efforts to make its software work more smoothly, or “interoperate” with other existing technologies.

Microsoft normally advices its customers into going for a complete packages of software technologies from them rather than bits and pieces from many sources. However, tighter IT budgets and efforts to create more compatible software standards are now forcing companies to change their policies towards making compatible applications.

Microsoft also launched a special section on their website dedicated to interoperability at http://www.microsoft.com/interop.
