EU says online search engines would have to follow their rules
European data privacy regulators have said that search engines whether they operate from Europe or not would have to follow their rules and regulations.
It said in a statement: “Search engines fall under the EU data protection directive if there are controllers collecting users’ IP addresses or search history information, and therefore have to comply with relevant provisions.”
It did not give details on how they would have to work to be in compliance but did say that the online search engines have now become an integral part of anyone’s life and that makes it important for them to comply with their regulations.
The rules require the companies to give the individual the power to allow or deny information which is collected by the companies.
