Blu-Ray’s next big rival is online downloads
Sony’s Blu-Ray format has managed to defeat Toshiba’s HD DVD format to become the standard for next generation storage media.
However, this is just the beginning. The storage format has a bigger rival which is much more challenging than the HD DVD format.
Market researchers Gartner and iSuppli have said that the format faces massive competition from the digital download market.
Customers are more and more preferring to download media from the internet rather than get it on discs.
And this is going to become even more popular as the internet speeds go better and better with time.
Apple iTunes has already become one of the leading music retailers in the US market overtaking a lot of popular retail outlets.
And movie downloads are becoming popular on these digital stores.
