MSN Search Engine gets inspired by Google
Anyone who has tracked the recent news and have been a regular search engine user would know that MSN Search Engine has borrowed quite a lot from Google and its ideas. Integration with other services like dictionary, news, and even music web store (in MSN’s case). The latest concept taken by the Microsoft’ team working on the Search Engine can be seen from what they have done to the search engine today.
It is super bowl time in the America and Microsoft has a very different looking background for the search box. Very inspired by the mega-event, which created much controversy last year due to that infamous wardrobe malfunction incident, the search page has a pleasant looking football image. Quite impressive I would say.
Now, using holiday logos has been a Google specialty, which MSN seems to be totally inspired from. Interestingly, Google has kept their basic logo on their homepage for the event today… too busy working on the next big thing? We would never know…
Google on their part have suddenly increased the number of invites for their users as many GMail fans have reported. Is it just a coincident or are we going to get the final launch of Google’s GMail in the coming weeks? Let us keep our fingers crossed. It was a hell of a year last year. This year does not look like slowing down the fun by much…

It is amazing that company as rich as Microsoft, employing very talented people from allover the world can not come up with their own ideas!
… but I guess it is when you look at their history, this is what they do best – stealing somebody else ideas and sell them as their own.

Ow it has 2 kinds of company! The first one is the company that brings new ideas, and the other one it’s the company that copy the new and fresh idea of the first company!
Lets say that Microsoft has a litlle bit of both.

Well Microsoft may be getting inspired by Google’s logo changing approach but they definitely have done a good job with their new search engine. Results are more relevant than G’s spam ridden SERPS and believe it.. it’ll only be good for everyone if there is competition. G’s real potential will be unleashed. Maybe it’s time for AI search engines :-)

Google results have been bad since the beginning of the month. I’ve switched to MSN Search despite a longlasting love of Google. Oh well. I guess the bigger they are, the harder they fall. The final blow to Google was when we couldn’t find our company site when we searched on our company name. Google used to always display it at the top of the search results. Now it’s buried way down on the list. They need to fire a few engineers for this latest debacle IMHO.

Even after trying MSN search for quite a few days, I’ve felt google’s better as its always been, seen more and more relevant results on google than msn. But its certain that this competition will bring out the best out of both… I also share the views of ziggy, leigh among others and have always experienced microsoft’s “crappiness” in most of their products… still the irony is I’m writing these comments on a win xp machine though I’m using firefox.. !

I tried msn search impartially..its better than bfore but it still sucks …google still gives better results,HOWEVER Dave is somewhat right..google standards are falling …few days back i was searching for some lyrics and the first 3 search results pages were filled with crap from 1 particular website

Hey, I just tried it and I’m willing to give them credit. It’s faster than heck and the results seem as good if not better than Google’s (I tried some of my favorite “pet” searches for things like Syracuse basketball and Hackz). Try it out and see whatcha think. I’m not sure I’d switch right now, but they’re making an effort.

I have to admit their (msn) search got better – best test is to plug in word “linux”, it used to direct you to Microsft for some compatabilities issues, but now it shows real results – 98,200,057 for msn and 223,000,000 for google.

Google vs. MSN !!!
Is new MSN Search original? Of course not. USABILITY of this “new” engine is 0 and they just put Google’s main page and changed (what I mean by changed here is imitated) to new one. They changed just colors and words such as they changed Google to MSN Search and etc. They changed php to aspx also. Also, they wanted to make different from Google and the add a combo-box. Here the usability problem appeared. Why we need these two navigation at the same time? Search box is really small, at least it have to be 35 characters but it is only 20 characters long.
They can make the search box longer and put all the links in combo-box and remove this “usable” box.
Why Google was so succesfull? Becase it made or created something original not imitated. “Being the distinguished” one always puts someone one step further…
PLESE SPEND SOME MONEY FOR USABILITY ………
