Samsung ships 500GB hard drive for notebooks
South Korean tech giant Samsung has become the first hard disk manufacturer to start shipping 500GB 2.5-inch drive.
The company said that they are now supplying Spinpoint M6 to OEMs and PC manufacturers.
Incidentally, Hitachi was the first company to announce such a drive. They announced their product before the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show. However, Samsung has now become the first company to start delivering it to customers.
Hitachi is also expected to soon release their versions of a 500GB drive for notebooks.
Market analysts said that this hard disk makes it possible for portable computers to have storage capacities of up to 1TB.
