Sheryl Sandberg is the new chief operating officer at Facebook

Social networking service Facebook has announced the appointment of Sheryl Sandberg as their new chief operating officer.

Sheryl Sandberg has been working at the search engine giant Google as their vice president of global online sales and operations.

She spoke about her appointment at Facebook: “I have learned so much during my time at Google, and I’ve loved working with the people there. I am thrilled to have this opportunity.”

Facebook also announced the German edition of their service. The company said that they are preparing to launch a French edition as well.

Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg spoke about the new developments in the company: “Sheryl is a great manager who will help scale Facebook’s operations globally. Sheryl understands Facebook’s goal of connecting everyone in the world and is passionate about building a business that will enable us to realize this mission.”
