Ask Jeeves deal with Bloglines confirmed
In an industry, which is dominated by giants of the tech world like Google, Microsoft and Yahoo!, smaller companies like Ask Jeeves often are ignored by the users of the web. This forces them to look beyond their normal array of services to add something new to their arsenal to attract more customers and users to their engines. The latest confirmed news in says Ask Jeeves has indeed bought the Blogging search service and web based RSS aggregator Bloglines.
This is the latest attempt from the search engine Ask to catch up with the market leaders. Few days back it offered personalized searching which was also provided by Yahoo! The acquisition was completed last week itself, but announcement was delayed until yesterday. The company has refused to disclose the terms of the deal.
Ask Jeeves’ interest in Bloglines is a natural reaction to the growing online popularity of the weblogs (otherwise called Blogs). Blogs have grown from being just personal journals online of regular web users to real discussion hubs on the Internet. Rather influential people have started maintaining their online Blogs to express their opinions and this includes Google itself, which has started launching its services through Blog announcements.
Ask plans to keep the basic structure of their new acquisition Bloglines intact while it integrate their technology and services in their other channels like Ask.com, iWon.com, Excite.com and Myway.com.
