Apple Rumor: Unlimited iTunes access in return for premium paid on iPods

Market sources are claiming that Apple is considering pursuing a new method of attracting new customers to their iPod and iTunes combo.

They are said to be in talks with the major media companies to come up with a scheme where customers would be able to buy the iPods for a premium in return to get unlimited access to iTunes.

This model could be considered similar to Nokia’s similar deal with deal with Universal Music.

Apple has not commented on this latest market rumor which the analysts believe could act as a catalyst to the digital download industry.

Apple of course is also said to be working on a subscription model on iTunes which would enable the customers to get unlimited access to the iTunes store for a fee per month.

I don’t think charging a $100 premium on iPods is going to fly with consumers that would double the price of an iPod shuffle. Monthly subscriptions won’t work ether for iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, and Zune Marketplace have monthly subscription plans and look at how well it’s working for them.
