China to target mobile phone spammers
Chinese authorities have said that they are now investigating into the growing trend of mobile spamming.
Liu Yue, deputy head of the State Council’s Office for Rectifying Malpractice said in a statement: “We urge parties concerned to beef up self-scrutiny to correct their wrongdoing, which is profit-seeking in defiance of public interests.”
China Mobile is one of the major players in the market which has already apologized for the problem. Focus Media Holding is an advertising network operator which also issued its apologies in this matter.
China Mobile added that they are now shutting down Focus Media’s message service port. This would prevent them from sending a large number of messages to their customers.
