China set to start testing homegrown 3G technology
China Mobile Communications has said that they are all set to test launch their homegrown 3G technology.
The mobile service provider said that they are going to test this new standard known as the TD-SCDMA.
The company would issue 20,000 phones and 5,000 data cards in some of the major cities in the country.
3G launch has been much delayed in this market as the government wanted to develop its own technology to avoid paying royalties to companies who own patents related to existing standards.
They had earlier aimed to bring 3G in the market before the starting of the Beijing Olympics.
