Amazon MP3 now second largest digital music store

Apple iTunes is the market leader when it comes to selling digital media.

However, it also happens to be the second largest retailer of music in the US market.

Amazon MP3 was launched rather recently but it has now climbed up the charts to become the second largest digital media store in the market today.

This service is a bit different from iTunes as it only sells DRM free MP3 music. Apple iTunes offer both DRM loaded and free media files.

Pete Baltaxe, Amazon’s director of digital music spoke about customer experience: “What we hear a lot is, ‘Thank you.’ They appreciate that everything is DRM-free and so comprehensive.”

So say the 5 companies that want there to be a significant competitor to iTMS for vending their music to consumers. And it’s only different because the 4 of the big 5 are colluding to not permit Apple to offer their music DRM-free.

First, ther is not a lot of DRM free stuff, called
“iTunes Plus” on the iTunes site.

Second, as much as I enjoy Amazon’s DRM free mp3 files, I just tried a video download. the .wmv file played fine in Windows Media Center; but downloaded to another computer with another player for .wmv files, it failed to play. They better jump on this problem or it will be a black eye they do not need.
