Macromedia to bring Flash to Mobiles with support from Nokia
Macromedia is planning to bring support for its very popular animation format Flash to the mobile platform with support from the world’s largest selling mobile phone company Nokia. They would be integrating the technology into Nokia’s Series 60 Platform for mobile devices, including smart phones. The Series 60 Platform is built on the Symbian Operating System and is licensed by mobile phones manufacturers including Lenovo, LG Electronics, Nokia, Panasonic, Samsung, Sendo, and Siemens.
As a result, the Series 60 mobile phones from Nokia would become a reference point for the Macromedia Flash technology. Nokia has also agreed to support the format in its other applications and software platforms.
This agreement between the two giants of their own industries might soon result in flash-based applications and content becoming a regular feature on the mobile phones. Macromedia representative Al Ramadan who is the executive vice president and general manager, mobile and devices, Macromedia told the media: “We look forward to bringing together the significant developer communities of both companies to deliver a new generation of digital experiences to an even broader section of the mobile ecosystem.â€
This becomes just one of the latest examples of the trends showing rich media become a common feature on the mobile devices available today. Similar announcements from other giants from the industry should follow this deal between macromedia and Nokia.
