IBM System i and System p server lines being merged
US based tech giant IBM has announced that they are now merging their System i and System p server lines into a single family of products.
Both of these server lines are decades old but they continue to be powered with similar software solutions.
They are also based on the same hardware specifications generally. They use IBM Power processors along with other similar hardware.
Scott Handy, vice president of worldwide marketing and strategy for IBM’s Power Systems group said in a statement on this new development: “This is a really big day for us and for a lot of customers, and it’s been a long time coming. We started this about 10 years ago, putting a plan together to fully integrate these two product lines.”
