Nokia collaborates with Microsoft for Music Download

A lot of players in the market have been impressed by the kind of sale figures Apple’s iTunes has generated in the last couple of years. This led to many online services opening around the world providing songs for sale. However, they have failed miserably considering Apple has the advantage of owning the iPod, which exclusively supports iTunes.

Tech giants like Microsoft and even the original online music swapping service Napster now have a solid presence in this field. However, none of them can boast of what Apple provides to their customers. What a company need is a popular product, which can support files downloaded from these music stores.

Here comes the one of the world’s largest seller of mobile phones in Nokia. The latest news in could pose a significant competition to Apple in the coming days. Nokia has now announced their tie-up with software giant Microsoft along with US music download service Loudeye.

This would let users of Nokia mobile phones download songs and ringtones from the net if they are equipped with Microsoft’s digital music-playing software. Interestingly, Microsoft is a rival of Nokia in the mobile phone market as they today announced their deal with Flextronics to produce Microsoft powered cheap mobile phones.

This deal would also see Nokia Phones supporting the Windows Media Player 10 application, which could be installed on the phones to take advantage of these new services.
