Nokia to allow co-branding on their handsets
Some big announcements were made during the 3GSM World Congress mobile phone trade fair in Cannes. Rivals in the mobile phone market, Nokia and Microsoft decided to join hands to provide a solid competition to Apple and their iPod device by bringing downloadable music on Nokia Mobile Phones. This would become interesting when Motorola’s phone with iTunes support comes out later this year in the market.
In another major story of the event, Nokia sent a strong signal in the market that it was willing to allow co-branding on handsets and to co-operate more with mobile operators around the world. Senior representative of Nokia, one of the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturers told the media: “We have intensified our dialogue with operators…we have put our attentive ear to work like never before”.
In addition, they also launched three new mobile handsets at the show. One of the major launches was of the 6681 model, which features a high-end music player with stereo output and new software applications. The market is seeing more competition in this new genre of phones, which support digital music playback as both Sony Ericsson and UK mobile phone maker Sendo, are launching similar products.
