Nokia Tube Concept to take on Apple iPhone
World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia might have the numbers to show for their performance but none of their products can match the charisma of the Apple iPhone.
The company continues to work on a worthy challenger to the iPhone.
Nokia has codenamed the challenger as Tube. The company said that Tube would be their first touch device.
Nokia Tube concept was showcased at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in Redwood City. The company added that Tube would support Java unlike the iPhone which lacks support for it and Flash.
Market analyst Avi Greengart spoke about Nokia Tube: “Nokia is quick to tell you it is already well versed in using touchscreens and creating touchscreen devices. In fact, its Internet tablet even has a full Internet browser with Flash support.”
Tom Libretto, vice president of Forum Nokia said in a statement that the device would be capable of uploading media content to the web directly. It is likely that the device would ship with built-in Wi-Fi or HSDPA connectivity.
The device could also feature support for DVB-H mobile-TV standard in the European market if Nokia is serious about making it a worthy rival to the Apple iPhone.
Gartenberg added about the Apple iPhone: “The iPhone literally feels different than scrolling around things on Nokia’s browser using five-way navigation control buttons. But both present you the entire page the way it would look if was on an even larger screen.”
Just released reports suggest that the Apple iPhone’s Safari web browser has become the most popular mobile web browser in the US market. They dominate the Nokia’s Symbian platform based web browser.
Nokia has not revealed any dates for the possible launch of this device. Hopefully, they do it soon as Apple would soon be out with the second generation iPhone which is likely to support 3G networks.
It would be interesting to see how Nokia enhances the web experience for the end user considering they would have to match the capabilities of Apple Safari in this device.
